A quality early Victorian double fusee bracket clock by John Bateman of London. Choice flame mahogany veneers of good colour. A recessed brass inlaid base panel with chamfered brass edging. Brass inlaid side columns and standing on brass bun feet. A stepped chamfered top with cast pineapple finial. Side sound brass fretwork with silk backing and side handles. A twin fusee, 8-day mechanism striking the hours on a coiled gong. A convex painted dial with blued steel hands signed 'Jno Bateman London' with a cast brass bezel surround and convex glass. Circa 1845


The Bateman family of clockmakers are recorded in Loomes' ' Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World' book as working from 1844 - 1857.
