A 17th century English lantern clock by Thomas Langley of London. An engraved dial and surmounted by an inner and outer bell for the quarter striking. A very well engraved dial centre. Side opening doors and standing on turned feet. A later, Victorian fitted twin fusee mechanism with quarter striking on 2 bells. The rear plate shows where an external alarm would have been positioned.
Thomas Langley of London was apprenticed to Samuel Davis in 1655 and freed in 1664.
Whilst the clock has been 'upgraded' as many were to a quality double fusee mechanism in the Victorian period, the clock frame is very original and dating to circa 1665.
