A small proportioned Regency mahogany regulator longcase clock. A slim case with an arched pediment surmounted by 3 gilded ball finials. Choice flame mahogany case veneers. Ebonised line inlays to the hood with fluted small side mouldings. A re-entrant base panel moulding as often seen on London area cases. A convex glass to the cast brass bezel. A circular painted dial with blued steel hands. A seconds dial and signed 'John Addison Guildford'. A fine quality 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell. It has a dead-beat escapement with maintaining power. Brass cased weights and a very heavy pendulum bob with a wooden rod as seen on most regulators. Circa 1825.
John Addison of Guildford is recorded in Baillies' 'Watchmakers and Clockmakers of The World' book as working in the early 19th century.
