An early example of a French brass cased striking & repeating carriage clock with a great provenance. A 'one-piece case' with gilding. An enamel dial with blued steel 'moon' hands and black Roman numerals. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours and 1/2 hours on a bell. The original lever escapement showing through the large top glass. Push button repeating, The original travelling box and numbered key, 6408. Circa 1865.
The engraving on the front is 'Sir Thomas Dyke Ackland 1867'. He was 11th Baronet and MP between 1837 and 1886 and a British educational reformer. He died in 1898 at Killerton House, Exeter.
