A quality Georgian bracket clock by Thomas Hawley of The Strand, London. Choice flame mahogany veneers of lovely colour to the smaller proportioned case. An arched top and recessed front panel. Arched side sound brass fretwork with silk backing. The original ogee brass bracket feet. Boxwood banding to the case edges. A twin fusee, 5-pillar mechanism striking the hours on a bell. A border engraved backplate, side case mounts and pendulum. A convex painted dial with blued steel hands signed 'HAWLEY, STRAND LONDON' with a cast brass bezel surround and convex glass. Circa 1815.
Thomas Hawley of The Strand, London is recorded in Baillies and Loomes' ' Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World' book as working from 1795-1839. He is noted as watchmaker to the King.
